Message from the principal
Hello Gladiola family members and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!
My name is Dr. Michael Shunk and I am VERY excited to be the principal at Gladiola (the best kept secret in the Rogue Valley)! Gladiola has an amazingly strong foundation of care, support, education, community, and culture of belonging for our students, and it is our mission to maintain and build upon this. We get to come back together in person with masks optional this year and that is a treat for all of us and ask that all of our community members please follow safe practices with COVID (staying home when sick, getting/discussing vaccination with your medical provider, etc.) so we can stay in person this year. We are all very excited for this year and are looking forward to serving our students!
Gladiola is a truly amazing place to learn and once you are here, you’ll understand why. We are a small, supportive community where ALL students can thrive and build their skills for a positive, healthy future. We have a full-time mental health therapist, a full time Project Youth + coordinator, access to Maslow Project for any housing related challenges, the opportunity to earn 10+ credits per year, and small class sizes which allow for students to get additional support and guidance from our amazing teachers and staff.
With the ability to earn 10+ credits per year at Gladiola, attendance is vital. We require an attendance percentage of 90%+ to remain here at Gladiola. Missing one period of class means a lot of learning & material is potentially missed, so please do your best to be here each and every day. If you are here each day, making progress in class (participating, getting work done, etc.), and bringing a positive mental attitude, we will get you across the finish line! We will also be working to support post-graduation plans as well through our Project Youth + partnership, helping to connect students with careers, training, and employment opportunities.
Our first priority is to ensure that Gladiola is a welcoming place for ALL of our students, where ALL students can learn and build a healthy future. We are here to help support you in any way we can and if you have any questions or concerns, we are available and excited to help.
Let’s have a wonderful year together!
