Message from the Principal

Dear Gladiola Families,

I am so excited to be returning for a second year as the principal of Gladiola High School.  Before coming to Gladiola I had heard so many positive things about the staff and students at Gladiola, and I can tell you that all of these stories are more than true.  We are Gladiola, and together we make up an amazing family.  We work hard at providing a safe space for all who attend, and not only strive to push our students towards earning their diploma, but help them with ensuring they have post high school plans.  Whether it be going to a 2-year or 4-year college, entering in the military, or going into a specific trade, our hope is that everyone of our students leaves Gladiola not only with a plan, but also experiences and opportunities to help them achieve their post-secondary goals.

We are able to maintain lower numbers at Gladiola than at a traditional high school. This allows  me to learn about every student, hear their stories, and help them continue to write out their personal narrative.  Your child not only has me in their corner, but every single staff member as well.  We will be here to lend an ear when they need to talk, acknowledge them for their accomplishments, and hold them accountable even when they don’t think they need it.  Sometimes the best lessons learned are hard lessons.  We let our students know that despite sometimes making mistakes, and poor decisions, we still care about them, and they are still part of this family.   Every day is a fresh start, and what happened in the past does not need to dictate where they are going in the future.

This year we are placing a heavy emphasis on student attendance.  If students show up and do their work then it will be much easier to earn a diploma.  Attendance is imperative for any school, but it is especially important at Gladiola because our teachers are providing instruction at an accelerated pace, with longer class periods, allowing us to provide more credits for students to earn over the course of the school year.  I am sure if you ask any student that has attended Gladiola, they will tell you that we are going to go above and beyond to help remove any barriers that might be preventing students from attending school.  We appreciate our families working with us, to make sure our students are coming to school every day.

If you have been a student or parent involved with Gladiola in the past, you know what a special place this school is, and if you are coming over to us, I hope you feel the sense of community and belonging that we strive to provide.  We are here to serve our students, and if you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year then please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,

Jake Musser
